NEW GENERATION / Means of Art brings together two generations and two distinct artistic positions in a dialogue between Surrealism and abstract Functionalism.
Jiří Máška’s multifaceted artistic practice draws on the imaginative possibilities of Surrealism, creating visual worlds in which reality, symbolism, and imagination intersect. Jana Volková approaches abstraction through an experimental language of form, structure, colour, and materiality, developing compositions that move between spontaneity and construction.
The encounter between their works reveals both artistic connection and individual expression. While Volková’s practice emerged in dialogue with Máška’s artistic environment, she has developed an independent approach that opens the conversation towards a new generation and its own means of artistic expression.
The exhibition invites visitors to explore the relationships between figuration and abstraction, structure and freedom, artistic influence and individual development. Rather than defining clear boundaries between these positions, NEW GENERATION / Means of Art creates a space in which different artistic languages, experiences, and generations can meet.
Jiří Máška is an internationally established Czech artist whose practice encompasses painting, graphic art, and sculpture. His works have been presented in galleries and exhibitions in New York, Paris, Milan, Prague, Seattle, Vienna, and other international contexts.
Jana Volková studied in the studio of Jiří Máška, where she developed the foundations of her artistic practice before forming a distinctive visual language of her own. Her work combines abstract forms, structures, and colours through an experimental approach to mixed media on canvas.
