Full Moon Gallery presents the exhibition MIDSOMMAR by the artist Jean Kirsten in June. This does not contain any paintings but is a two-part installation consisting of his 27-part series of stelae and his Laban model “Seven link movable chain”. His artworks were inspired by Suzanne Perrottet and Rudolf Laban, who met and fell in love in spring of 1912 at Lahmann’s sanatorium at the Weißer Hirsch. A year later they organized the first summer dance course on Monte Verità near Ascona in Switzerland. Isolated in Switzerland after the outbreak of World War I, Rudolf Laban, together with Suzanne Perrottet and others, developed the theory of modern dance. This was put on the UNESCO list of intangible world cultural heritage in December of the year 2023, but the name Laban is not really in the consciousness of the German public. Jean Kirsten wants to commemorate this encounter of Suzanne and Rudolf through his works.

The conceptual artist, Jean Kirsten, was born in 1966 in Dresden. Since 1990 he studied painting and graphics with Günter Horlbeck at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. In 1995 he became a master student of Günther Hornig and was his only assistant from 1998 to 2004. He is a member of the Laban Guild International. Since 2009 Jean Kirsten has been working with Rudolf Laban’s harmonic space theory and his kinetography, also called Labanotation. He has had over 100 exhibitions on four continents (Europe, North and South America, Australia).
